The Neolamarckia cadamba is among the most essential medicinal plants in the Rubiaceae family. Traditionally, it was used to treat different ailments like fever, blood diseases, skin diseases, eye inflammation, and diarrhea. One such ayurvedic treatment is Neolamarckia cadamba, which is referenced in numerous Indian medical literatures.
Triterpenes, triterpenoid glycosides, flavonoids, saponins, cadambine, cadambagenic acid, quinovic acid, isocadambine, isodihydrocadambine, and cadamine are the major chemical constituents of the plant, all of which have different biological and pharmacological effects. Additionally, the plant's numerous pharmacological properties, including antibacterial, antioxidant, anticancer, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, sedative, diuretic, anthelmintic, hepatoprotective, wound healing & antidiarrheal have been examined.
The current aim is to explore its comprehensive data on traditional uses, chemical constituents, and pharmacological activity of different parts of Neolamarckia cadamba that may help in determining its potential as a multifunctional medicinal agent and can be explored & appropriately evaluated for the benefit of humankind. The literature review was done on Neolamarckia cadamba using Google Scholar, Scopus, Science Direct, PubMed, ethnobotanical books, online and print journals, scientific databases, and other web search engines (Google).
