Abstract

BACKROUND:

The present review contains an extensive synopsis of the last three years of progress in the development of smart MNs, organized into the following categories. First, with an emphasis on diverse printing processes, the solution-processed technique for MNs is shown. Then, distinct summaries are provided for smart MNs intended for medication administration, sensing, and integrated systems that combine diagnosis and therapy.

MAIN BODY:

Over the years, a drug's therapeutic efficacy has been increased by focusing on the specific area of the illness and decreasing the harmful effects on healthy cells. Drug administration via a range of routes, such as oral, parenteral, inhalation, transdermal, etc., Microneedles also known as microneedle patches or microarray patches are micron-scaled medical devices. The past few years, enhancing microneedles with interesting features like adhesion ability, responsiveness, and controllable drug release has been the main focus of research efforts.

CONCLUSION:

These developments have allowed microneedles to advance significantly in real-world applications such as wearable biosensors, cell culture, biomedical assays, home drug delivery, and microfluidic chip analysis. The last section of the discussion covers the potential and exciting uses of next-generation MNs in mediated diagnostic and treatment systems.
