The Anti-arthritic potential of ethanolic extract of flowers of Michelia champaca L was evaluated by Freund’s Complete Adjuvant (FCA) induced arthritis in rats. Arthritis was induced by injecting 0.1ml of FCA in to the right hind paw of rats. The animals were treated with doses 250mg/kg and 500mg/kg body weight p.o of extract and Standard at a dose of 10mg/kg. Diclofenac Sodium was used as a standard drug. The extract (500mg/kg) exhibited maximum anti-arthritic activity i.e., 81.28% (p<0.01) than the standard Diclofenac 84.08%. The Histopathological changes in knee joints of experimental animals also shows that ethanol Extract exerts a potent protective effect against adjuvant induced arthritis. Based on the above study, we concluded that the ethanol Extract of flowers of Michelia champaca (CMPK) has significant anti-arthritic activity and might prove efficacious for further design and development of agents with significant biological activity.
