Introduction: This cross-sectional study evaluated Jordanian pharmacists' knowledge, attitudes, and practices toward Punica granatum (pomegranate) and its role in natural product counseling.
Method: A structured questionnaire was distributed electronically between April and June 2025, targeting licensed pharmacists across community and hospital settings in Jordan. Results: A total of 437 pharmacists participated from both genders, with a mean age of 29.89 (StD=7.06) years and an average professional experience of 5.71 (StD=5.49) years. the majority, 364(83.29%), held a bachelor’s degree, while 73.0 (16.7%) had postgraduate qualifications. respondents demonstrated good general awareness of P. granatum, particularly its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cardioprotective properties.
Discussion: However, knowledge gaps were evident regarding herb drug interactions, contraindications, and clinically appropriate dosing, with nearly half of the participants unable to identify proper therapeutic doses. attitudes toward natural products were generally positive, with most pharmacists expressing willingness to counsel patients, though concerns regarding liability and lack of standardized guidelines were reported. significant associations were observed between gender, education level, and knowledge scores, with postgraduate pharmacists showing higher confidence and awareness. despite enthusiasm, pharmacists reported limited curricular training and insufficient continuing education opportunities related to Natural product chemistry and phytotherapy. Conclusion: the findings underscore the urgent need for structured educational interventions and national guidelines to enhance pharmacists’ role in evidence-based natural product counseling. strengthening pharmacists’ competencies in this field is essential for improving patient safety and bridging the gap between traditional knowledge and modern medical practice.
