Abstract

Background: One in 10 people aged 20-79 globally have diabetes, affecting 537 million. This number is expected to rise significantly by 2030 and 2045, with 81% in low- and middle-income countries. The study aims to assess Panchagavya in treating type II diabetes in Gadag District.

Methods: A pre-experimental, one-group pre-test and post-test study was conducted among Type II Diabetes Mellitus patients. The purposive sampling technique was used for collecting samples, and a sample size of 50 participants was selected as per Ayurveda and Panchagavya experts’ opinion. Data was obtained using a pre-tested semi-structured questionnaire, and results were expressed in frequency and percentages. The paired samples t-test was used to test the significant decline in RBS levels and symptom severity before and after Panchagavya intervention.

Results: Out of 50 participants Most of the participants got relief from their symptoms, like excessive urination, thirst, and numbness in hands, and a reduction in RBS and HbA1c levels in a few participants by using Panchagavya treatment. In rural areas panchagavya products are easily available and came out as an effective remedy in managing Type Ⅱ Diabetes Mellitus in terms of reduction in symptoms like excessive urination, thirst, and numbness in hands and reduction in RBS and HbA1c levels in a few participants by using Panchagavya treatment. The mean RBS level was decreased from 127.75 mg/dl to 123.35 mg/dl in patients having RBS levels of 100-140 mg/dl, from 167.62 mg/dl to 163.44 mg/dl in patients having RBS levels of 141-200 mg/dl, and from 201 mg/dl to 0 in patients having RBS levels above 201 mg/dl by using our medicines.

Conclusion: Findings showed that the symptoms like excessive urination, thirst, and numbness in hands were reduced, and a decrease in the RBS and HbA1c levels in a few participants by using Panchagavya treatment was observed.
