Objective: However, there is growing evidence that MTZ can have a negative impact on men’s reproductive and endocrine systems. This study aims to evaluate how the treatment of MTZ (22mg/kg per day, oral for30-60days) affects the reproductive hormones in adult male rats.
Methods: Thirty Wistar rats (n = 10) were randomly divided into three groups: the control group, the 30-day MTZ treatment group and the 60-day MTZ treatment group. ELISA was used to assess the levels of testosterone, luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in the blood
Results: The level of FSH (39.6614.62 35.698.91), LH (3.732.21 8.828.60), and testosterone (2.740.85 A, 2.631.14) was significantly lower than the control (p0.05). These results indicate that MTZ therapy can also reduce hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal dysfunction of Leydig and Sertoli cell function.
Conclusion: According to the results, long-term use of MTZ could be harmful to reproduction.
