Abstract

This research investigates the intricate pathways and micro-mechanisms through which knowledge is transferred within latecomer firms, focusing on both intra-organizational and inter-organizational dynamics. Latecomer firms, typically entering industries after established players, face unique challenges in acquiring and leveraging knowledge to catch up and compete effectively. Drawing upon a multi-level framework that integrates individual, team, and organizational perspectives, we examine the various channels and processes involved in knowledge transfer, including formal training programs, informal networks, cross-functional collaborations, and strategic alliances. Through a combination of qualitative case studies and quantitative analyses, we unpack the underlying mechanisms driving knowledge transfer effectiveness and identify critical factors shaping transfer outcomes, such as absorptive capacity, trust, communication, and organizational culture. Our findings contribute to a deeper understanding of how latecomer firms navigate the complexities of knowledge acquisition and utilization, offering insights into strategies for enhancing their innovation capabilities and competitive positioning in rapidly evolving industries.
