Abstract

This research investigates gender stratification within the field of electron microscopy in China, examining patterns of representation, access, and advancement among male and female scientists. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative analysis of publication and citation data with qualitative examination of career trajectories and institutional dynamics, we explore the extent of gender disparities in research output, recognition, and leadership roles within the electron microscopy community. Additionally, we examine the underlying factors contributing to these disparities, including cultural norms, institutional policies, mentorship opportunities, and work-life balance considerations. Through interviews and surveys with practitioners and stakeholders in the field, we seek to elucidate the experiences and perspectives of male and female scientists, shedding light on the mechanisms perpetuating gender stratification and potential avenues for promoting gender equity and inclusivity in electron microscopy research in China.
