Abstract

This study conducts a comprehensive evaluation of the development performance in the western region, utilizing the total factor productivity (TFP) framework as a key analytical lens. By examining the efficiency and effectiveness of resource utilization across various sectors and industries in the western region, we assess the extent to which productivity growth contributes to economic development and regional convergence. Drawing upon extensive data on inputs and outputs, including labor, capital, and technology, we employ econometric techniques to estimate TFP growth and analyze its determinants. Additionally, we explore the role of policy interventions, infrastructure development, human capital investment, and innovation promotion in driving TFP growth and fostering sustainable development in the western region. Our findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, planners, and stakeholders seeking to formulate strategies and initiatives aimed at promoting balanced and inclusive regional development in China.
