Abstract

This study investigates the intricate dynamics between technology imports, product exports, and indigenous research and development (R&D) activities within high-tech firms operating in Zhejiang Province, China. By analyzing data from a sample of high and new technology enterprises (HNTEs), we examine how technology imports influence the export performance of products and the extent to which indigenous R&D efforts mediate this relationship. Drawing on theoretical frameworks from international business, innovation management, and trade literature, we develop hypotheses and test them using regression analysis techniques. Our findings shed light on the nuanced interactions between technology sourcing strategies, export competitiveness, and innovation capabilities among HNTEs in Zhejiang Province. The implications of this research contribute to a deeper understanding of the mechanisms driving technological innovation and internationalization strategies in emerging economies.
