Abstract

This study presents a personas-based approach for understanding subject knowledge services, focusing on the case of subject competitiveness analysis in regional economics. By employing personas, which represent archetypal users or stakeholders, this research aims to identify diverse user needs, preferences, and behaviors related to subject knowledge services in the context of regional economics. Drawing upon insights from information science, economics, and user experience design, this study conducts in-depth interviews, surveys, and observational studies to develop personas that encapsulate the characteristics and requirements of different user segments, such as policymakers, researchers, business leaders, and students, engaging with subject competitiveness analysis. Through the personas-based analysis, this research uncovers key user pain points, motivations, and usage scenarios, providing valuable insights for the design, development, and delivery of subject knowledge services tailored to the specific needs and preferences of diverse user groups. The findings offer practical implications for information professionals, policymakers, and service providers seeking to enhance the usability, relevance, and impact of subject knowledge services in supporting evidence-based decision-making and regional economic development initiatives.
