Abstract

This study investigates the impact of technical progress on urban employment opportunities for Chinese youth across 18 industries. Using panel data analysis, this research examines how advancements in technology affect the job prospects and career trajectories of young workers in urban areas across different sectors of the Chinese economy. Drawing upon theories of labor economics, technological change, and youth employment, this study explores the mechanisms through which technical progress influences labor demand, skill requirements, and employment patterns for youth in urban settings. Through empirical analysis of longitudinal data collected from a diverse sample of industries, this research identifies key factors driving variations in employment opportunities for young workers and assesses the differential impacts of technological advancements across different industries. The findings provide insights into the implications of technological progress for youth employment dynamics, labor market transitions, and policy interventions aimed at promoting inclusive growth and social mobility in urban China. This study contributes to the understanding of the complex relationship between technical progress and urban employment outcomes for Chinese youth.
