Abstract

This research examines the potential of an innovation-driven approach to inform the redesign of urban function and the reorganization of urban space. Drawing upon insights from urban planning, innovation studies, and design thinking, the study proposes a novel framework that emphasizes the role of innovation in shaping the physical, social, and economic dimensions of urban environments. Through a multi-disciplinary lens, the research explores how innovative solutions, technologies, and processes can be leveraged to address contemporary urban challenges such as population growth, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion. By analyzing case studies and best practices from cities around the world, the study identifies key principles and strategies for promoting innovation in urban design, infrastructure development, and placemaking initiatives. Furthermore, it examines the role of stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector actors, community organizations, and academic institutions, in fostering a culture of innovation and experimentation within urban contexts. The findings offer insights into the potential benefits of adopting an innovation-driven perspective for redesigning urban function and reorganizing urban space, including increased livability, economic vitality, and resilience in the face of dynamic social and environmental pressures. The research contributes to a growing body of literature on innovative urban planning approaches and provides practical guidance for policymakers, urban designers, and community stakeholders seeking to create more sustainable, inclusive, and vibrant cities in the 21st century.
