Malva neglecta, commonly known as common mallow, is a plant species known for its traditional medicinal uses. This study investigates the efficacy of Malva neglecta extracts in various biological applications, particularly focusing on its potential therapeutic benefits. The study employed various analytical techniques including gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) to identify and characterize bioactive compounds present in Malva neglecta extracts. The research explores the anti-cancer properties of Malva neglecta extracts using in vitro models, specifically assessing their effects on apoptosis, cell proliferation, and oxidative stress in cancer cell lines. Furthermore, the thesis examines the antioxidant potential of these extracts and their impact on cellular oxidative balance. Key findings indicate that Malva neglecta extracts exhibit significant cytotoxic effects against cancer cells, mediated through mechanisms involving apoptosis induction and oxidative stress modulation. The identification of bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, phenolic acids, and fatty acids provides insights into the molecular basis of their therapeutic actions. This thesis contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the medicinal potential of Malva neglecta and underscores its significance as a source of bioactive compounds with promising pharmaceutical applications, particularly in cancer therapy and oxidative stress management.
