Abstract

This study employs a local spatial econometric approach to investigate the interplay between university and enterprise research and development (R&D) activities and regional innovation within the capital region. Utilizing a rich dataset encompassing R&D expenditures, patent filings, and institutional affiliations, we employ spatial regression models to discern the localized effects of university and enterprise R&D on regional innovation outcomes. Our findings reveal significant spatial dependencies and spillover effects, wherein proximity to universities and research-intensive enterprises positively influences regional innovation performance. Moreover, we uncover nuanced spatial patterns, highlighting the differential impacts of university and enterprise R&D on innovation across distinct geographic clusters within the capital region. By elucidating the localized dynamics of R&D and innovation, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of regional innovation ecosystems and informs targeted policy interventions aimed at fostering innovation-driven economic growth in the capital region.
