Abstract

The city of Constantine is a living urban framework, embedded in an environment with which it communicates, evolves and changes over time. As time goes by, new urbanities emerge and new ways of appropriating space appear, continually redefining the boundaries of the city and its outskirts. In response to these urban developments, and in particular to the transitional mobility between the city center and its surrounding areas, both near and far, many new infrastructures are being created to provide links between these entities. Serving peri-urban sites opens up opportunities for extension, urbanization and new forms, landscapes and functions of space appropriation, with the result that the outskirts, and limits of the city are sometimes invisible and even impossible to determine. In order to deal more effectively with the issue of urban outskirts, we need to look back at the evolution and changes in city boundaries, in order to identify the spatial, economic, environmental,
landscape and identity characteristics that make them more visible and legible, particularly in the city of Constantine and its outskirts. The methods adopted are the theoretical approach through content
analysis, the survey method through analysis and the questionnaire.
