HYDROGELS AND SMART HYDROGELS AS DRUG CARRIERS – A COMPREHENSIVE AND NOVEL STRATEGY

Abstract

Introduction: Hydrogels are the soaring drug carrier, widely using for tumour drug delivery. Using hydrogel as a carrier can reduce side effects than compared with systematic chemotherapy and drug can be delivered to targeted sites in a controlled manner, not only this, hydrogels have excellent biocompatibility and biodegradability and lower toxicity.

Novelty: In reaction to both internal and external environmental stimuli, hydrogel has the ability to intelligently adapt to changes in its surroundings. This makes it possible to remotely control and release active chemicals as needed.

Methods and results: In this paper, includes stepwise procedure for formulation of hydrogel, different methods for preparation of hydrogels and drug release pattern of hydrogel. And also discussed about smart hydrogels which having specialized physical characteristics. Owing to their exceptional features hydrogels have become a popular material in drug delivery systems.

Conclusion: Hydrogel-based drug delivery shows promise for administering advanced medications precisely. With in processing research into their biocompatibility, functionality hydrogels continue for addressing many challenges in medicine, biotechnology and tissue engineering.
