ACCREDITATION VS. STANDARDIZATION: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF QUALITY ASSURANCE IN ONLINE DOCTORAL PROGRAMS OFFERED BY AFRICAN UNIVERSITIES
Abstract
This paper explores the challenges and implications of accreditation and standardization in online doctoral programs offered by African universities. By conducting a comparative analysis of the two quality assurance processes, the study aims to investigate their roles in ensuring the quality, credibility, and outcomes of online doctoral education across Africa. It reviews existing literature and incorporates case studies from selected African universities to examine how accreditation and standardization are applied, their impacts on educational quality, and the challenges universities face in adhering to these processes. The paper concludes with recommendations for a balanced approach to quality assurance that considers local and international standards.
