Abstract

This paper examines the dynamics of technological diffusion facilitated by foreign direct investment (FDI) and its implications for the development of hi-tech industries in Hubei province, with a focus on the optic communications sector in Wuhan. Leveraging empirical evidence and case study analysis, the research investigates the mechanisms through which FDI contributes to knowledge spillovers, technology transfer, and innovation diffusion within local industries, particularly in the context of emerging hi-tech sectors. Drawing on insights from the literature on FDI, technological innovation, and industrial development, the study explores the extent to which FDI inflows stimulate technological upgrading, enhance industrial competitiveness, and foster the emergence of a local innovation ecosystem. Through a comprehensive analysis of the optic communications industry in Wuhan, the paper elucidates the role of FDI in shaping the industry's technological capabilities, market positioning, and global competitiveness. The research also examines the broader implications of technological diffusion via FDI for regional economic growth, employment generation, and industrial restructuring in Hubei province. Methodologically, the study employs a combination of quantitative analysis, including econometric modeling and input-output analysis, and qualitative methods such as case studies and interviews with industry stakeholders. By offering empirical insights into the dynamics of technological diffusion and FDI-driven industrial development, the paper contributes to both theoretical debates and policy discussions on the role of foreign investment in promoting technological innovation and industrial upgrading in regional economies.
