This research investigates the relationship between entry modes and research and development (R&D) intensity of Chinese multinational corporations' (MNCs) overseas R&D activities. Utilizing a cross-case study approach, this research examines how different entry modes, such as acquisitions, joint ventures, and greenfield investments, influence the level and focus of R&D investments made by Chinese MNCs in foreign markets. Drawing upon theories of international business, innovation management, and organizational strategy, this study explores the strategic considerations and contextual factors that shape the choice of entry modes and their impact on R&D intensity. Through in-depth analysis of multiple case studies, this research identifies patterns, trends, and best practices in the relationship between entry modes and R&D investment strategies of Chinese MNCs. The findings offer insights into the implications for policymakers, managers, and stakeholders involved in promoting global innovation capabilities and enhancing the competitiveness of Chinese MNCs in the international market.
