Abstract

One of the problems facing communities remains environmental degradation, mainly that of roads, due to rainfall parameters, soil nature and human activities. This research aims to describe the different forms of degradation of dirt roads in the commune of Parakou. To achieve this, the mixed approach was adopted and was structured around documentary research, observations and field surveys using an observation grid, an observation grid, a questionnaire and an interview guide. The snowball and reasoned choice sampling techniques and the probabilistic sampling of D. Schwartz (1995) were selected and applied to interview three hundred and ninety-five (395) stakeholders in the commune. The data obtained were analyzed using the PEIR model. The data analysis revealed two main forms of degradation, described as Minor and Advanced Degradation.
