Abstract

The investigation reveals progressive microstructural refinement and deformation-induced changes in pure aluminium as cold work increases. This refinement correlates directly with increases in hardness, as evidenced by the reduced grain size. Pure aluminium exhibits a coarse grain structure (ASTM 2–3) and a Brinell Hardness Number (BHN) of 20 in the as-cast condition. With 20% and 30% cold work, the grain size refines to ASTM 3–4 and 4–5, respectively, while hardness increases to 25 BHN and 32 BHN. This research compares microstructural refinement and material hardening under cold work conditions.
